About Us

Who We Are

The West Alabama Fiber Guild (WAFG) is a volunteer-based community organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating fiber arts in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Our story

The talented fiber artist, Carol Timkovitch, established the guild in 1995. Carol’s passion for bobbin lace, spinning, tatting, and weaving, along with her commitment to teaching and sharing knowledge, ignited a widespread enthusiasm for fiber arts in the local community. Sadly, we lost Carol in 2021, but her legacy lives on through WAFG’s continued efforts to honor her and promote the artistry and beauty of fiber arts.

What We Do

Guild members teach, learn and practice a wide range of fiber arts including knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, kumihimo, embroidery, felting, tatting, macrame, and dyeing among others. We also organize fun fiber related outings and social activities.

The West Alabama Fiber Guild promotes and celebrates the artistry and beauty of fiber arts in the local community. WFAG provides an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals to explore and excel in the world of fiber arts.

Participate in Local Art Events

One of the highlights of being a member of the West Alabama Fiber Guild is the chance to showcase and sell your handmade items at events. The guild actively participates in various local art markets and events including the annual Kentuck Art Festival, where members have the opportunity to display their creations and demonstrate different types of fiber arts. This is a fantastic way to gain exposure, connect with potential customers, and receive feedback on your work.
