3/3/24- Get Ready to Learn Frame Loom Weaving!

This Sunday 3/3/24, Catherine Scott will be teaching us how to weave using a frame loom, which is a great and inexpensive way to start your weaving journey. During this class you will learn:

  • How to warp your loom and get it ready for weaving.
  • How to use a heddle bar (to make weaving faster and easier)
  • Basic weaving stitches.
  • How to use two colors in the warp to show the effects of tabby (plain) weave, floats, vertical stripes, and if time allows clasped weft.

Catherine has a few looms available for sale at $25 each, so if you need one, please bring cash to the next meeting.

If you can’t wait to get started, check out the videos Catherine recommends below. They go over how to warp your frame loom, meaning how to add the vertical strings so it’s ready for weaving and several other techniques.

What to bring:

  • Frame loom (or get one from Catherine)
  • You may bring yarn if you like but it is not required. For warping, bring smooth and strong yarn for the warp such (e.g. cotton yarn fingering or sport weight). Thinner yarn will be easier to work with.   For the weft (the yarn that is passed back and forth the vertical strings or warp), you can bring anything you like from roving to any kind or weight of yarn.
